Walmart vows to fight ruling that it underpaid truck drivers
A federal judge ruled that the company didn’t adequately pay for activities such as washing trucks, weighing freight and doing paperwork.
Walmart is one of several large employers aiming to improve its image by announcing pay hikes for employees this year.
That image improvement may have hit a bit of a setback, however, with a recent ruling from a federal judge that says Walmart failed to pay California minimum wage to a group of 720 past and current truck drivers.
The drivers claimed that the company did not pay them properly for layovers, weighing their trucks, doing paperwork, washing trucks and so on. Walmart said pay for those activities was included in other payments made to drivers.
