Vodka brands stand up for marriage equality
Absolut and Smirnoff vodka brands on Tuesday swapped their usual Facebook cover photos with images in support of same-sex marriage.
Vodka maker Absolut has always made it a habit of injecting its marketing efforts into the Zeitgeist. And in a that’s-so-Oreo move today, the company came out strong in support of gay marriage rights with a custom graphic on its Facebook page. It depicts a bottle of Absolute draped in red cloth with the copy, “Today, red stands for marriage equality. SHARE this and spread the word.”
The image has gotten mostly positive comments and more than 2,000 shares.
The move is reminiscent of Oreo, which issued a graphic of a rainbow-colored cookie during Gay Pride Week last June. That sparked an unsuccessful boycott from anti-gay marriage groups.
