Use meditation to improve your PR prowess
Many PR pros actively engage with clients. The responsibility to keep things together often can be overwhelming. To help you stay grounded and focused on your craft, one pro says to go Zen.
Like many busy PR pros, I struggle to achieve moments of “Zen.”
As I have trouble embracing someone telling me to “relax,” I was surprised to discover how much I enjoyed meditation.
Practicing meditators are aware of its benefits (decreased blood pressure, reduced anxiety and fewer headaches). Neophytes might not realize its ability to boost performance in everyday routines. Mine is public relations, which has been described as one of the most stressful careers in the United States.
PR pros are familiar with the stresses of continually communicating and maintaining a positive public image. We give speeches, adhere to tight deadlines and often are the voice of our clients. Although we are on call during crises and on the front lines at press conferences, I wouldn’t change a thing about my demanding role. I thank meditation for that.
