Story touts PR as a ‘woman’s world’ but ignores income disparity between sexes
The Grindstone article cites a high ratio of women to men, though curiously omitting the numbers that include dollar signs.
PR Daily has reported that the industry is as much as 85 percent female, a notion that the website The Grindstone highlighted for a story on women in PR.
With the current ratio of women to men in the PR business being so high, and having risen so drastically since 1987, it might be safe to say that when it comes to public relations, it is indeed a woman’s world. For all of these women, it was the skills that helped them succeed in PR jobs that also helped them launch their own businesses.
The Grindstone bills itself as a place where professional women who are moving up the career ladder can go to “vent their frustrations, share their amusements and learn how to survive.” Odd, then, that its story on women in PR doesn’t mention the persistent income disparity between the sexes.
