Skin irritations force McDonald’s to ‘swiftly’ pull new kids fitness trackers
The ‘Step-It’ wristband had barely hit the market when the chain voluntarily recalled it. There were complaints about rashes, and critics condemned the pairing of fast food and fitness.
The “Step It! Activity Band” fitness trackers given out in Happy Meals “apparently caused skin irritations” in youngsters.
Fox News reported the bands came in six colors and strapped on like a wristwatch. The devices counted steps and blinked according to how quickly or slowly the person wearing it moved.
Terri Hickey, a spokesperson for McDonald’s, told Mashable:
“We are voluntarily removing the Step It! Activity Band Happy Meal toys in our restaurants in our U.S. and Canadian markets,” Hickey [said]. “It will no longer be offered as part of our Happy Meals. We have taken this swift and voluntary step after receiving limited reports of potential skin irritations that may be associated with wearing the band.”
