Maureen Elias
Storytelling Instructor
Maureen Elias is a US Army Veteran, military retiree spouse, and mother. She served as a counterintelligence agent from 2001-2006 when injuries cut her career short. Elias has a Bachelor’s in Science from Campbell University and a Masters in Mental Health Counseling from Bowie State University. She joined the House Committee on Veterans Affairs as a Professional Staff Member for the Disability Assistance and Memorial Affairs (DAMA) Subcommittee. Currently, she is serving as the Senior Advisor for Benefits at the Department of Veterans Affairs, Veterans Benefits Administration. Elias is also an accomplished storyteller who has performed at the DC Improv, Kennedy Center, and the White House. She is also a seasoned storytelling instructor who has taught for the last four years with the Armed Services Arts Partnership helping service members, Veterans, and their families, caregivers, and survivors tell their stories in ways that meaningfully bridge the civilian/military divide.
