Senior Vice President of Global Communications - Wasserman

Calder Hynes is the senior vice president of global communications for Wasserman, a leading sports, music and entertainment agency with presence in 27 countries around the world. In his role, he manages a team that is involved in all aspects of external and internal communications, the company’s social media presence, and corporate creative department.

Hynes has extensive experience working with some of the world’s most recognizable figures, including Kobe Bryant, Brittney Griner, Megan Rapinoe, Katie Ledecky, Connor McDavid, Alex Morgan, Jamie Vardy, Klay Thompson and Pau Gasol. In addition, he works with the agency’s executives and agents on crisis communications, overall strategy, external relations and earned media, award nominations, and pitching for speaking engagements, among other duties.

Prior to Wasserman, Hynes worked in the public relations departments of a number of professional sports teams: the Los Angeles Lakers, Brooklyn Nets, New Orleans Hornets, and Miami Dolphins. His event experience includes the Super Bowl, Special Olympics, World Baseball Classic, NBA All-Star, Miami Open, Rose Bowl, Orange Bowl and Sugar Bowl.

He served as the primary press and media relations contact for Griner, her family and wife Cherelle during her wrongful detention by Russia in 2022, playing an active role in the campaign to eventually return Griner safely home and implementing a communications plan that involved the White House, advocacy groups, a network of celebrities and influencers, grassroots organizations, and a number of other entities. His contributions to work around the geopolitical crisis garnered multiple awards and recognitions, including from Sports Business Journal, the Ragan PR Daily Awards and Hashtag Sports.

Hynes – a 2024 PRWeek 40 Under 40 Honoree – attended the University of Arizona, where he graduated with a BA in Art History in 2008 before obtaining an MS in Sport Administration from St. Thomas University (FL) in 2009. He has spoken at a number of conferences and events, including the Sloan Sports and Analytics Conference, Hashtag Sports Conference, and the Arizona State University Sports Business Symposium. He currently works remotely in his native Tucson, AZ with his wife Lisa and two children – son Xander and daughter Harlow. He was part of Startup Tucson’s inaugural ‘Remote Tucson’ cohort in 2021.
