Obama promises @POTUS tweets are really his
The White House Twitter account is run by staffers and @BarackObama is a product of Organizing for Action. @POTUS is a personal account, according to the president’s staff.
The @POTUS Twitter account launched Monday, and in less than a day it has amassed almost 2 million followers.
The first tweet from the account is an insistence from President Obama that he is sending the tweets himself:
Hello, Twitter! It’s Barack. Really! Six years in, they’re finally giving me my own account.

A tweet from the White House account reinforces that point:
BREAKING: President Obama just launched @POTUS with a tweet from the Oval Office. It’s really him! #WelcomeToTwitter https://t.co/oMsgvV55i1
