NYC’s self-esteem campaign stirs debate
Critics of Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s last hurrah before leaving office call the campaign, which aims to improve young girls’ self-image, ‘creepy.’
And the city has launched a self-esteem campaigned aimed at young girls to show it.
Some are thinking that the $330,000 campaign, which relies heavily on subway and bus advertisements, misses the mark.
The campaign is aimed at improving the self image of girls ages 7-12 who, according to The New York Times, “are at risk of negative body images that can lead to eating disorders, drinking, acting out sexually, suicide, and bullying.”
