Cisco unveils the city of the future
The networking firm snagged an award for its series of videos about the technological experimentation of Songdo, South Korea.
The videos in Cisco Systems’ “Cities of the Future: Songdo, South Korea” series on YouTube aren’t all that flashy. They don’t have dancing flash mobs, funny animals, or any of the other things often associated with viral videos.
What the videos do is focus on a brand-new city’s educational system, infrastructure, work environments, and leisure facilities to examine what’s possible using Cisco technology. The documentary style of the videos provides viewers with a serious, newsy look at what a true modern city looks like. Bucking the trends of online video to produce something substantive and fascinating is what earned Cisco top honors in the Best Use of Video category of PR Daily’s 2012 Media Relations Awards.
It helps that a lot of people watched, though. The videos racked up a total of more than 61,000 views and were shared more than 1,000 times via social channels.
To draw attention to the videos, Cisco communicators posted videos to internal Cisco websites and on “The Network,” the company’s online newsroom. Communicators also promoted the videos on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. The videos were also showcased at the Cisco House, a “building of the future” in London constructed for the 2012 Olympic Games.
