How organizations are communicating about tariffs

Company responses fall into two broad categories.

Tariffs are transforming modern supply chains. While the exact tariffs are in flux based on where President Donald Trump is in the negotiating process, the specter of increased costs hangs over imports and exports from the United States and its biggest trading partners.

Many organizations are keeping relatively quiet on the topic of tariffs, avoiding sweeping statements of support or opposition and sticking to cautious outlooks in earnings reports. Others are relying on trade organizations to make statements rather than sticking their neck out and potentially earning the ire of the president.

Here are some of the public-facing statements so far.

How individual companies are responding

Company responses to tariffs are like icebergs. For every public statement, there are thousands of hours devoted to lobbying, supply chain work and contingency planning. So even though individual companies may be quiet on the surface, we can assume that almost every company has prepared a robust strategy for responding to tariffs on a logistical level.

Generally, responses from individual companies fall into two categories: direct appeals to Trump or general statements of impact.
