These editing tips can improve your writing

Even experienced writers can sacrifice quality to meet tight deadlines if they don’t have firm mastery of the editing process.

Crafting clear, compelling content demands a keen eye for detail and a commitment to refining your work as a writer.

“Good writing is about rewriting,” said Tom Corfman, senior consultant at RCG. Corfman, who has led editing workshops for decades, recently hosted a webinar for Ragan Communications on “Self-Editing Secrets for Better Writing.”

Editing includes double-checking the spelling of all names, titles, dates and statistics. It doesn’t matter if you’ve spelled something a thousand times in the past, check it one last time. Nothing undermines credibility faster than inaccurate information or sloppy sourcing.

But substance is even more important, Corfman said. Whether it’s ensuring the tone and voice align with the brand or making sure quotes sound like something the person would actually say.
