Comcast shoots own foot in response to tweet
The cable provider announced that it planned to pull its funding for a nonprofit after it tweeted a link the company didn’t like. Comcast has since apologized and said the funds are safe.
The Washington Post reports that the cable provider’s vice president of communications told Seattle-area nonprofit Reel Grrls that Comcast “could not in good conscience continue to provide you with funding” because of a tweet.
The offending tweet? A link to a freepress.net petition critical of FCC Commissioner Meredith Atwell Baker’s decision to take a job as a lobbyist at Comcast/NBC Universal just months after she voted to approve Comcast and NBC’s merger, tagged with #mediajustice.
Reel Grrls turned to YouTube. “What will I do this summer if this program isn’t funded?” one of the speakers in the video asks.
