Pfizer Facebook page hacked; security lapse blamed on employee at PR firm
A hacker group broke into the Pfizer pharmaceuticals Facebook page and posted a picture of a PR pro with the suggestion that he beef up the page’s security.
On Tuesday night, a hacker group briefly commandeered Pfizer’s Facebook page, a security lapse that some in the pharma industry blamed on Facebook. However, security experts are now saying that a PR firm working with Pfizer is to blame.
Before Pfizer regained control of its Facebook page, the hacker group posted a picture of an employee of WCG—a firm working with Pfizer—allegedly in charge of the page and added this note on the company’s wall: “Hint for next time: protect this company with a little better security.”
