Poll: The top 10 journalism schools in America
Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications beat Northwestern, Columbia, and the University of Missouri for the top spot.
Syracuse beat Northwestern’s Medill, Columbia University, University of Missouri at Columbia, and USC’s Annenberg School.
Among the issues raised in the survey were the basic skills that some communicators—not just reporters—are lacking as they finish college:
“Several respondents said schools should be teaching more ‘digital or new media.’ At the same time, a number of respondents praised journalism schools for doing just that, indicating all J-schools seem to have risen to meet that challenge in the past few years.”
Other respondents called for more grammar classes while others called for a greater emphasis on objectivity.
