Facebook cracks down on fake news
The social network’s new feature will enable users to flag hoaxes and other false stories.
It’s true. Though it may come as a terrible shock to some of you, not all the stories your friends share on Facebook are actually accurate.
In a recent Facebook blog post titled “News Feed FYI: Showing Fewer Hoaxes,” software engineer Erich Owens and research scientist Udi Weinsberg say that the days of fake news passing as actual journalism are over—at least on Facebook, anyway.
Users now have an option in a post’s drop-down menu to tell Facebook what they’re seeing is a false news story.
