GM gets another round of bad press over ignition failures
The automaker has received more than 4,100 injury claims over the past months. Now that the claims deadline has passed, the story is back in the news.
The largest U.S. automaker is still facing bad press once again over a massive recall due to faulty ignition switches in many of its cars.
General Motors is looking at 4,180 claims—including 455 death claims—that arrived before its Jan. 31 deadline to file.
Almost a year ago, GM recalled 800,000 of its small cars due to a flaw in the ignition switch that could turn off power steering and airbags while the car was in motion. The company reportedly knew about the problem for 11 years before issuing the recall.
