Is PR on its deathbed?
Though some agree with sentiments in Robert Phillips’ new book, ‘Trust Me, PR is Dead,’ many comms pros would challenge his opinions.
Yet that’s what the title of PR veteran Robert Phillips’ new book, “Trust Me, PR is Dead,” insists. Margaret Heffernan writes in Huffington Post that Phillips’ book “marshals a powerful argument that no one in the world trusts PR anymore.”
“PR is dead because neither the clients nor the market believes a word it generates,” Heffernan says.
I haven’t read Phillips’ book, but this isn’t the first time I’ve heard these and other claims about the industry’s death knell.
Heffernan’s piece cites evidence of PR’s death, including a “shallow” talent pool, lack of measurement and accountability and the farce of corporate social responsibility programs. These sentiments and more can be found every day on PR Daily.
