Starbucks offers free drinks after computer outage
Point-of-sale register systems went down across the company’s U.S. and Canadian locations Friday evening. Stores either shut their doors or gave away its coffee, to the disappointment (or delight) of customers.
The great journalist and media blogger Jim Romenesko tweeted out this public service announcement Friday, and he wasn’t alone:
PSA: Starbucks computers are down nationwide (currently 7:26 p.m. ET, Friday) and drinks are free.

That’s right. Instead of shutting down its stores—which would have led to this being a very different (i.e. negative) story—someone up the chain gave stores the OK to stay open and keep serving coffee to the surprise (and delight) of Twitter and Instagram users everywhere.
