Facebook moves forward in the fight for content dominance
The social network offered publishers ad revenue from certain promoted posts in exchange for hosting content on its site.
On Friday, May 1, The Wall Street Journal reported that Facebook offered publishers the opportunity to keep all the revenue from certain ads on the platform. In exchange, the publishers would house content directly on Facebook in a new feature called “Instant News.”
Facebook has been in negotiations with publishers such as The New York Times, National Geographic and Buzzfeed for several months, but the news feature could debut as early as May.
Facebook says the feature will improve users’ news experience by loading stories faster, especially on mobile devices, but the move will only increase Facebook’s domination with content through social media platforms.
