IRS ups estimate of taxpayers affected by hack
The agency reported that 220,000 more taxpayers than had originally been reported may have had their personal information breached.
Remember back in May when the IRS revealed that it had been hacked, and around 114,000 taxpayers’ information had been compromised? Well, triple that number.
The organization announced that the hack affected roughly 220,000 more victims.
Hackers accessed an IRS application called Get Transcript. From USA Today:
To enter the Get Transcript system, the user must correctly answer multiple identity verification questions.
