7 ways PR grads can impress on internship applications
Intern applications and the interview season are in full swing. Whether you’ve secured one for this year or are looking for the fall, heed this advice.
Landing an intern job is the goal of many graduating college students. PR and communication majors fight hard to be agency and company interns every semester. Employers now look outside the pool of communication and PR majors when selecting PR interns. Students must be more competitive when applying.
I’m a qualified success story. Before you think I have a big head, hear me out. I started as a student at a small Christian college here in Oklahoma. I was active on campus, pulling decent grades; an internship was my last priority. I had the attitude “I will get a job, it’s just in my nature.” Close to graduation things got very real, and I put a few feelers out. I was happy to hear from JonesPR.
When I say “hear” I mean I got an email from JonesPR saying: “Résumé.” I got my act together and sent in a résumé. This was almost five years ago, when PR students were perhaps not required to be experts in social media, design and coding. We were expected only to be good writers. I landed the internship.
