Speaking of taking the plunge, former first daughter Chelsea Clinton makes her debut next Monday as a special correspondent on “Rock Center” with a story on the founder of an afterschool and summer program in Pine Bluff, Ark.

Meanwhile, The Wall Street Journal reports that NBC’s “Today” show could be courting “American Idol” and “E! News” host Ryan Seacrest as a possible successor to Matt Lauer. Great. Every story will end with a cliffhanger that we’ll find out only “after the break.”

Clinton’s and Seacrest’s careers might be taking flight, but that’s about the only thing according to the International Air Transport Association, which predicts the airline industry will find itself more grounded in the year ahead. Global financial crises might curb passenger and cargo growth, with the European market hit hardest.
