Which team is winning the social media big game?

The scores have been tallied, and in the social media match between the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks, it’s a blowout.

On Sunday, the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks will square off in this year’s Super Bowl. Ahead of the big game, the two teams already have been squaring off on social media.

Some of the recent social media activity surrounding the two teams has been, well, a little deflating.

Facebook, Twitter and other social media sites have blown up over the Patriots’ “Deflategate” scandal. Allegations have swirled that New England wielded an unfair advantage in its Jan. 18 clobbering of the Indianapolis Colts by using underinflated footballs.

Meanwhile, the Seahawks apologized for “poor judgment” in posting a tweet that compared their football victory Jan. 18 over the Green Bay Packers to the legacy of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr.

Controversy aside, the New England beats Seattle in a head-to-head comparison of the teams’ presence on social media. (Don’t cry, Russell Wilson.) But is this showdown a nail-biter or a blowout? Here’s the score, based on a Jan. 27 review of eight of their social media accounts.
