Ikea offers free wall anchors for chests after child deaths

The company has issued a recall of 27 million dressers because two children died last year when the furniture tipped over onto them.

Ikea is urging customers to order free wall mounts to secure furniture to walls as part of a massive recall of dressers.

The company has recalled about 27 million pieces of furniture, but isn’t asking customers to return them. Instead, the furniture retailer is directing customers to fasten the dressers to the wall to prevent injuries and deaths caused when they tip over.

The company has launched a website called “Secure it!” to inform people about the wall anchoring kits. Ikea USA posted a link to the site on its Facebook page Wednesday, and there’s a link from the Ikea USA home page. ​

There isn’t any text on the “Secure It!” home page directly relating it to a recall. To find information about what specifically spurred the company’s safety campaign, visitors to Ikea’s website will have to dig down into the text of a press release on another page. It reads, in part:
