Abercrombie & Fitch has had its share of PR problems
in recent months. So has Taylor Swift
. Now the PR-embattled brand and singer are butting heads, and Swift’s passionate fan base seems to have put her on top.
Swift fans took to Twitter and YouTube
to complain about a shirt that read, “#more boyfriends than T.S.” Though the shirt didn’t mention the singer by her full name, fans took offense.
About 130 Swift fans signed a petition at Change.org
demanding the shirt be removed from Abercrombie & Fitch store shelves. The clothier eventually did just that.
Some Swift fans started an effort to flood A&F’s PR line with calls, to the point where the automated message on the line states, “If you are calling regarding the Taylor Swift T-shirt, please note this is no longer available.”
The company tweeted about Swift fans’ distaste, also:
The responses range from thank-yous to further complaints, such as “Why’d you make the shirt, then?”
A few other responses mention other PR problems that A&F has faced as a result of the company’s lack of XL and XXL clothing for women.
One says, “Now if you'd just be nicer to chubby (aka ‘ugly’) people, we wouldn't have an issue.”
