Every weekday, PR Daily associate editor Alan Pearcy highlights the day’s most compelling stories and amusing marginalia on the Web in this, #TheDailySpin.
“Just lost my job
“And my dog ran away
“Then my woman stole the trailer
“What an awful, no-good day.”
According to my dad, these could be the lyrics to practically any country song. Let it be known, Elmer is no fan of the country twang. While his disdain may spare him the painful earworm of whatever break-up melody Taylor Swift just penned—not to mention that Tobey Keith travesty about his Solo cup—I insist my pops is missing out.
Perhaps Austin Cunningham can sway him, much the same way the women of a certain cable news network swayed the singer/songwriter.
Politico reports that the lyrics to Cunningham’s new single, “The Girls of Fox News,” suggest the network’s female anchors have led the former liberal country boy to the political right.

Connecticut’s Fox affiliate may have a different take on its female news desk. According to
The Huffington Post, while covering an International Women’s Day march last week, a cameraman with the station shot nothing more than 13-seconds of a woman’s chest. Despite reshowing the footage during a subsequent newscast, Fox CT later apologized for the incident.

Maybe you’re more partial to print for your daily news. In that case, it might interest you to learn that all those daily headlines could soon be delivered directly to your breakfast thanks to the technology behind a new toaster.

Still, we shouldn’t discredit how far the tech industry has come over the years. Venturing back to 1997,
Complex reminds us that it wasn’t too long ago that we were impatiently waiting to log in on AIM while sluggishly browsing the Web by way of Netscape Navigator.
Meanwhile, if you’re among the South By Southwest attendees navigating their way through Austin this week, be on the lookout for the
six kinds people you’re likely to meet.

Ty Morin will probably meet more than six kinds of people in the artist’s journey to photograph each of his 788 Facebook friends.
Mashable reports that Morin has taken to
Kicktstarter to help fund his quest.
I just hope the guy doesn’t have his sights set as high as “Veronica Mars” fans do in seeing the CW’s former quick-witted detective make her big-screen debut. Supporters have flocked to Kickstarter to donate to the project, which reached its $2 million fundraising goal in just one day, according to
The New York Times.
On a smaller, but still impressive scale,
GalleyCat highlights the story of Lauren, an 11-year-old girl who used Kickstarter to raise enough money to self-publish her children’s book, “The Clown that Lost His Frown.”
Perhaps one day literary buffs will tout letters from young Lauren. For now,
Open Culture shares the postcards of six famous writers, including Ernest Hemingway and F. Scott Fitzgerald.

While Hemingway and Fitzgerald might hold sway over postcards, William Shakespeare has bragging rights over Hollywood. In something of a tribute to the Bard’s work,
The Week notes seven movies—from “10 Things I Hate About You” to “The Lion King”— that are cleverly disguised as Shakespeare adaptations.
Speaking of movies, a mash-up by
PistolShrimps of classic films proves that like cowbell to a song, you can always use more Batman (via
Nerd Approved):
Nike could also use more Batman, or so Robert Vergati Santos imagines. From Iron Man for McDonald’s to Captain America for UPS,
Gizmodo shares the graphic designer’s series of “Sponsored Heroes.”
Not to be outdone,
BuzzFeed compiled a gallery of 20 superheroes whose secret alter egos may or may not be adorable little girls.
