Maya Angelou stamp features quote from another author

A spokesman said the USPS will not reissue the stamp, noting the late author and poet referenced the sentence on several occasions.

There’s just one problem: Angelou didn’t originally say it.

Though it’s one of Angelou’s favorite quotes and she often referenced it, the quote is actually from a 1967 poem in Joan Walsh Anglund’s book, “A Cup of Sun.” It has an obvious connection to Angelou’s 1969 autobiography, “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings.”
