Samsung answers privacy concerns over TV voice recognition
Eagle-eyed observers noticed a line in the company’s privacy policy that stated ‘personal or sensitive information’ would be picked up.
Privacy advocates and a good many social media users were not pleased to discover this line from Samsung’s privacy policy for its Internet-connected Smart TVs:
Please be aware that if your spoken words include personal or other sensitive information, that information will be among the data captured and transmitted to a third party through your use of Voice Recognition.
The company’s TVs have a feature that enables viewers to control the device with voice commands, but the warning that the voice sensors pick up on more than those commands is a worrisome notion to some.
Over the weekend, Twitter users offered quite a few tweets in the vein of this one:
