Remember Friendster? It predated Myspace and Facebook (and still exists
, apparently). For all of its innovation, Friendster essentially disappeared in favor of other social networks.
Its fate—the disappearing brand—isn’t all that uncommon.
In fact, 24/7 Wall St.
is predicting that 10 brands will likely disappear next year. Some of them are fairly well-known.
Here are the 10 that they think will disappear in 2014:
1. J.C. Penney

3. Martha Stewart Living Magazine
4. Living Social
8. Leap Wireless
9. Mitsubishi Motors
10. Road & Track
looked to industry trends to come to these conclusions. For example, the two print magazines on the list, Martha Stewart Living
and Road & Track
, have been particularly hard-hit by industry-wide drops in advertising revenue over the past few years.
Likewise, Olympus is on the list because point-and-shoot digital cameras have largely been made obsolete by smartphone cameras.
