American shoppers will spend $586 billion this holiday season

For marketers, the holidays are like the playoffs—when every piece of content counts, and there are no easy wins. It’s also the most important time of year for many businesses, as yearly revenue is closely tied to these five weeks.

Most people start shopping in November, with 31.7 percent kicking things off this month, and most (seven out of 10) plan to spend the same or more than they did last year. Overall, people are planning to spend $586.1 billion on stuff—lots and lots of stuff.
